By supporting Q Radiothon you will be making a real difference to the lives of young people and families affected by cancer and terminal illness across Northern Ireland. When Zoe Gilmore was diagnosed with a brain tumour at 15 years old Cancer Fund for Children were there to support her, and her family. Zoe shares her story:
“Well basically I stopped growing. My mum took me to the doctors and the doctor was a bit concerned and sent me for an MRI. They found out I had a brain tumour that meant I didn’t produce growth and other hormones.”
“I went to Great Ormond street in London for my first surgery which was in November. I had the surgery through my nose, to debulk the tumour. Then I went back over in February, for another surgery and they opened me ear to ear. After that I went for proton beam therapy in America last summer.”

“I think it was after my second operation that I met Gemma from Cancer Fund for Children who was there to support me and my family. After I came back from America we went to the charity’s short break centre, Daisy Lodge in Newcastle and had an absolute ball. It was amazing.”
“Recently I attended three of Cancer Fund for Children residentials. It was amazing meeting other young people going through a similar experience. We did loads of team games, got to know a bit about each other, and how each other felt. Anxiety was a big thing for us as a group. I worried about how my family and friends were dealing with my diagnosis. We discussed how people would speak to you differently after your diagnosis and how that made us feel.”
“If there’s anything you can do to support Cancer Fund for Children it would be brilliant. They have helped me so much. They have built up my confidence and helped me open up to my feelings. Any donation you could give would be amazing.”
