About Q Radiothon

2018 is a really exciting year for Q Radio as we are hosting our very first Q Radiothon on Thursday 31st May, Friday 1st June and Saturday 2nd June 2018.

The aim of Q Radiothon is to bring people across Northern Ireland together to raise money for our four fantastic charity partners and the vital work they do to support local families affected cancer and serious illness.  Our charity partners are Action Cancer, Cancer Fund for Children, Friends of the Cancer Centre and Marie Curie.

Over the Q Radiothon weekend (Thursday 31st May to Saturday 2nd June 2018), Q Radio will be buzzing with activity.  We will be broadcasting live from a purpose built studio at Friends of the Cancer Centre, which is based at the heart of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital, with regular live inserts from each of the other charity headquarters. Content will be driven by the work undertaken by each of the participating charities and we will hear some really inspiring stories about how your support can make a difference to the lives of local families.  Over the weekend we will be calling on our listeners and people across Northern Ireland to dig deep and to make a donation via text, phone or online.  We might even have some famous faces join us, so make sure you tune in.

In the run up to the Q Radiothon weekend, we are also encouraging people across Northern Ireland to take part in our Big Brunch, or to hold their own fundraising event, to help us raise even more money for our worthy causes.

You can find out more about how you can support us by visiting the ‘Get Involved’ section of the website.

This year is our first Q Radiothon and we are committed to making a huge success for these charities, but we really need your help.  Together we can make a difference.

If you would like to find out more about each of the charities supported by

Q Radiothon, you can visit the ‘Our Charities’ section of the website https://qradiothon.com/our-charities/  or you can visit each of the charity websites by clicking on the links below:

We have endeavoured to keep costs to run Q Radiothon to a minimum and thanks to the generosity of Q Radio management, Q Radio staff, our charitable partners and other sponsors, we have very low operating costs.  However, in order to administer the Q Radiothon, fundraise creatively and manage the funds raised professionally, we do incur some costs. You can find out more about the local companies supporting Q Radiothon in the ‘Our Sponsors’ section of the website https://qradiothon.com/sponsors/

Supporting Q Radiothon

The great news is there are lots of ways you can support Q Radiothon.  As well as tuning in to Q Radio from 31st May – 2nd June and making donations across the weekend, we’re also calling on people across Northern Ireland to come together to take part in our Big Brunch or to host their own event to help us raise as much money as we can for our charity partners.  Find out more by visiting the ‘Get Involved’ section of our website.

Signing up for the Big Brunch couldn’t be easier.  Simply click on the ‘Get Involved’ section of the website and download your fundraising pack which contains everything you need for a fantastic fundraiser.  If you can let us know that you’re planning a Big Brunch by emailing us at info@qradiothon.com we can be on hand to support you with your fundraising.  Then all you have to do is pick a date when you’d like to host your event, tell all your family, friends and colleagues so they can join in the fun, and get set to raise lots of money for our chosen charities.

We’d love to hear about all the great work you are doing to support us, so make sure you like our Q Radiothon Facebook page and to follow us on Twitter and Instagram (insert links below) so you can tag us in your pictures.  Don’t forget to use the hashtags #QRadiothon #BigBrunch

If you don’t want to take part in an event, but would still like to support

Q Radiothon, you can make a donation at any time.  There are several ways you can do it, see below:

  • Online: visit our JustGiving page
  • Donate by text: You can donate to Q Radtiothon by texting QRAD10 followed by the amount you wish to donate to 70070.

For example, if you wish to donate £10 simply text QRAD10 £10 to 70070 to donate to Q Radiothon. This service is provided via JustTextGiving by Vodafone and all the money you donate goes to Q Radiothon. Please note, you may be charged for your text message so please refer to your network operator’s standard rates. Please visit JustGiving for more information.

  • By post: send a cheque, made payable to ‘Q Radiothon’ to: Q Radio, Fountain Centre, College Street, Belfast, BT1 6ET

The easiest way to make a donation from overseas is to donate online via our JustGiving page. Unfortunately you cannot use JustTextGiving to donate from abroad.

Friends of the Cancer Centre, one of our charity partners, is kindly hosting online donations for Q Radiothon on the charity’s own JustGiving page.  This means that when you go to this JustGiving page you’ll see ‘fcc’ in the web address and also a few mentions of Friends of the Cancer Centre on the page.  If you donate via this JustGiving page it does not mean that you are supporting Friends of the Cancer Centre only, as all money raised during Q Radiothon will still be equally shared among our four charity partners at the end of the appeal.

By hosting the page with Friends of the Cancer Centre, you can donate online in a few easy steps and lodge any money you raise from your Big Brunch or fundraiser, as well as claim Gift Aid for your generous donation which will allow us to collect and extra 25p for every £1 you donate.

This page is just a temporary measure, so you may see some changes to how our JustGiving page looks over the next few weeks.  We are busy working on a new JustGiving page which make it even easier to support Q Radiothon and to see how much money is being raised along the way.

Most importantly, we promise that no matter what way you choose to donate, your money will reach and benefit each of our charity partners equally.

Of course!  Our Big Brunch is just one of the ways you can raise money, so if you have your own idea then go for it.  If you can let us know what you’re planning by emailing our dedicated Q Radiothon fundraiser at info@qradiothon.com we can be on hand to support you with your fundraising.

We do advise that any fundraising activities you undertake must be done legally.  It is against the law to collect money door to door, hold street collections or arrange collections in public places without a licence.  It is also against the law to hold a raffle for more than one day without a licence.  If you have any additional queries, please email info@qradiothon.com .

We’d love to hear about all the great work you are doing to support us, so make sure you like our Q Radiothon Facebook page and follow us on Twitter and Instagram (insert links below) so you can tag us in your pictures.  Don’t forget to use the hashtags #QRadiothon #TogetherWeCan

Support from the local business community is really important and we would love lots of companies and places of work to be involved.  You and your colleagues can take part in our Big Brunch, or alternatively you can host your own fundraising event. If you have an event idea we would love to hear from you.  Our dedicated Q Radiothon fundraiser is here to help support you and provide any materials you need to make our event a huge success.   You can get in touch by emailing info@qradiothon.com or call us on 028 90 890109.

Or if your company or place of work would like to make a donation, you can donate online here or post a cheque made payable to Q Radiothon to Q Radio, Fountain Centre, College Street, Belfast, BT1 6ET.

Just like all our supporters, we’d love to hear about all the great work you and your place of work are doing to support us, so make sure you like our Q Radiothon Facebook page and follow us on Twitter and Instagram (insert links below) so you can tag us in your pictures.  Don’t forget to use the hashtags #QRadiothon #Big Brunch #TogetherWeCan

Unfortunately Q Radio will not be able to guarantee coverage of individual events on the station.  However, local newspapers are a great way to let people in your community know that you’re supporting Q Radiothon.  Please email us at info@qradiothon.com and we will be happy to send you information which your local paper will find useful.  This will also help spread the word about how other people in your community can support

Q Radiothon and help us raise even more money to support our four fantastic charities.

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that our presenters will be able to attend your event.  We have a really busy time ahead and our presenters will be heavily involved with our on air activities encouraging people across Northern Ireland to support Q Radiothon.

If you are taking part in an event or holding your own event, we would love to hear from you and we will try our very best to give some shout outs on air.  You can:

You’ve worked hard to organise and host your event and you should be really proud of what you’ve achieved.  Once your event is over, don’t forget to pay in the money you have raised so that we can add it to our

Q Radiothon total.  We will then send you a thank you letter and certificate with the incredible sum you’ve raised to support our charity partners.  A great way to let your family and friends how much money you have raised is by posting on your own social media.  Follow Q Radioton on Facebook, Twitter and Instragram and tag us in your posts.

Don’t forget to use the hashtags #QRadiothon #TogetherWeCan and #BigBrunch

You can visit our JustGiving page at any time to see the fantastic donations that we are raising together.  Our presenters will also keep everyone updated on how much money is being raised across the Q Radiothon weekend (31st May – 2nd June).

The final total will be announced when all donations have been received and accounted for.  Once we have a grand total we will announce it on air on Q Radio, online on this website, across our social media channels and through our charity partners.  To help us get to our final total, we would encourage our fundraisers and donors to lodge their money as soon as they can (see section below for details).

Getting your money to us

There are lots of ways to send in your donations, but we ask that you don’t send cash by post. We also ask that you don’t send your donation directly to one of our charity partners as this will make it more difficult to track your donation and add it to the main Q Radiothon total.  Instead, please use one of the options below:

Q Radio, Fountain Centre, College Street, Belfast, BT1 6ET

When you donate via our JustGiving page, you will be given the option to add Gift Aid which will add an extra 25p to every £1 you donate.  Unfortunately, we are not able to Gift Aid your cash or cheque donations this year, but we will be working on this for our next Q Radiothon.

Once we have received all donations from our wonderful supporters, the final total will be shared equally among our four charity partners Action Cancer, Cancer Fund for Children, Friends of the Cancer Centre and Marie Curie.

Each of our charity partners provide vital support to families across Northern Ireland who are affected by cancer, life-limiting and terminal illnesses.  To see some of the ways each charity will use your generous donation, you can visit the ‘Our Charities’ section of the website and you can also read some inspiring stories from people who have been supported by the work of each of the charities in the ‘News’ section of the website.

Or you can find out more about each charity and the work it does by visiting its website:
